Dear Diane,
What is your take on sandals with hose? Our corporate policy states that sandals are allowed in the office, but hosiery is also mandatory. A few of my coworkers, let’s call them “seasoned” ladies, have come into the office wearing hosiery with their toes peeping out of the toe box of their shoe or summer sandal. I find the look rather silly, but maybe I’m over sensitive. By the way, I should have mentioned I am a male supervisor that is heading up the 10 woman team.

Dear Pat G.,
My answer in one word to the hosiery and sandal dilemma is a resounding “No!”
First of all, wearing a sandal to the office is already a questionable choice in judgment. In a work environment, your business attire selection, including your shoes, is a professional statement, as well as an indicator of your decision making. Wearing hosiery with your sandals is two strikes against you. My suggestion is to opt for an open-toed pump or a high heeled sandal with a chunky heel – but only wear without hosiery. In your case, these two options would not be acceptable choices. For more of my thoughts on sandals in the office, visit my blog.
Best,
Diane
